Edgeøya

Named in the 17th century after an English whaler, Thomas Edge, this is the third largest island in the archipelago. Visitors today will find remains of old trappers huts and evidence of the whaling indsutry still stains the landscape. The southeastern corner is often favoured by large numbers of walrus and large kittiwake colonies attract Arctic foxes. During the winter this is also an important denning area for polar bears and that can lead to some great sightings.
