Landmarks potentially visited on Northwest Passage Revealed (Eastbound)

Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Calgary

On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in downtown Calgary. Once checked in, please visit the hospitality desk to speak with the ground operations team about embarkation procedures and tomorrow’s charter flight.

Day 2: Fly to Cambridge Bay and embark on your ship

After breakfast, take a transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Cambridge Bay, where your ship awaits. Once aboard, take time to settle into your cabin before attending important safety briefings. This evening, you’ll meet your expedition team and crew.

Days 3 to 8: Expedition cruising

Over the coming days, you’ll embrace the true spirit of expedition travel. The itinerary will be guided by weather and ice conditions, with plans evolving to maximise every opportunity for exploration. Possible destinations include:

Point Zenith

This dramatic rocky headland offers sweeping ocean views and an intense feeling of isolation. As you step ashore, the stillness and raw natural beauty create a lasting impression.

Hazard Inlet (Qariaraajuk)

Explore a historic Inuit site once inhabited by bowhead whale hunters in the 15th and 16th Centuries. The remains of more than 100 bowhead whale lie scattered across the shore, and around 20 excavated sod houses offer insight into this thriving community. Burial grounds, kayak stands and caches further showcase the site’s importance.

Bellot Strait

A narrow, steep-sided passage known for powerful tidal currents of up to 10 knots. Transiting the strait requires precise timing around slack water.

Port Leopold

A remote and rugged bay steeped in exploration history. Visit the remains of a Hudson’s Bay Company hut and learn about the harsh winter endured by the crews of HMS Enterprise and Investigator during their search for the Franklin expedition.

Prince Leopold Island (Appait)

These towering cliffs are the Arctic’s most important bird sanctuary, home to around 500,000 nesting seabirds. In 1848, explorer James Clark Ross overwintered here. Keep watch for ringed seals and polar bears often seen in the area.

Radstock Bay

Land by zodiac on a beach scattered with remnants of ancient and more recent inhabitants. Discover a well-preserved Thule village beneath Caswell Tower, with stone structures and the bones of whales that once sustained these communities.

Beechey Island (Iluvilik)

This Canadian National Historic Site is the final resting place of three men from the Franklin expedition. Also visited by Roald Amundsen in 1903, it holds an enduring place in Arctic exploration history.

Devon Island (Tallurutit)

The world’s largest uninhabited island, Devon Island is marked by striking geology and abundant wildlife. Walks at Dundas Harbour may reveal birdlife and remnants of an RCMP post and trading station. Other potential stops include Croker Bay and Maxwell Bay.

Day 9: Pond Inlet (Mittimatalik), Nunavut

Located at the northern tip of Baffin Island, this destination is surrounded by icy peaks, glaciers and fjords. Enjoy a warm welcome and immersive cultural experiences with the Inuit community, gaining insights into life in this extraordinary region.

Day 10: At sea cruising towards Greenland

Depart Canada and cross Baffin Bay toward Greenland. Relax in one of the ship’s lounges and enjoy talks from our expedition team as you take in the vast, icy landscapes.

Days 11 & 12: Northwest Greenland

Explore Greenland’s rugged northwest coast, known for its traditional villages and colossal icebergs. Activities may include zodiac cruising, hikes, community visits, and for those who have booked the kayaking programme in advance, paddling among the ice while keeping an eye out for whales.

Day 13: Ilulissat

Arrive in the “birthplace of icebergs” and hike up the UNESCO-listed Icefjord to witness the immense Jakobshavn Glacier. It produces around 20 million tonnes of ice daily – more than any other glacier in the Northern Hemisphere.

Day 14: Sisimiut

Greenland’s second-largest town lies just north of the Arctic Circle and offers fascinating insights into ancient and modern cultures. Visit the old blue church and museum to learn about the Saqqaq, Dorset and Thule cultures that have called this place home.

Day 15: Disembark in Nuuk and fly to Toronto

Early this morning, sail into Nuuk and disembark after breakfast. Say farewell to your expedition team before transferring to the airport for your charter flight to Toronto, where an overnight stay is included at the Westin Toronto Airport Hotel.

Day 16: Depart Toronto

After breakfast, check out and take the hotel’s complimentary shuttle to Toronto Airport to continue your journey.
