The polar bears we encountered close to the ship. Especially the ones we met on the sea-ice. To get an insight to their natural life such as hunting, eating, being curious, falling asleep - that is something I will never forget.

This trip was simply marvelous. The hour long up close viewing of a female polar bear from the bow of the ship as she crossed the sea ice and put on a show for us was certainly a highlight. The 1500 pictures I took over the course of this viewing is a testament to this. The expedition staff were amazing - 3 Ph.D.'s and each and everyone had a wealth of knowledge to share. Ali, the expedition leader, was wonderful in explaining all the reasons for our changing itinerary and worked with the captain to ensure fabulous landings and zodiac cruises.

Pls note that this was my 3rd time to Svalbard. First two times were on much smaller ships with much less people and we just loved those expeditions. You got the feel that they were real expeditions where anything was possible. The itineraries were flexible depending on conditions of course. This was a great trip and I would recommend it to first timers. I would be more wary of recommending it to photographers. There were too many people on the zodiacs and it was obvious that the schedule was More important than the expedition flavor of a real expedition.

Highlights were wildlife sightings and excursions off the ship. People were very nice with a good mix of backgrounds and nationalities. The second 4 hour visit to Longyearbyen after the cruise was unnecessary. We did not know about the stop in Tromso to re-enter Norway.

I will not go back to Greenland. I have seen it now. The trip is expensive so that's a problem for me. The day we took the icebreaker right up to the edge of the glacier was the highlight. We did see a few polar bears in the distance. The zodiacs chased them so people could get pictures which I think was really bad. In one instance the zodiacs chased the bear for about 15 min. The bear was far up the mountain but it was clearly scared. Also there was a polar bear in the water and about an hour later the zodiacs went out. I don't think the guides were watching closely ...they definitely were not ...it was dangerous. The guides were not seasoned enough ..they were nice but they need more experience and knowledge of the area.

Seeing a curious young male polar bear come across the sea ice to check out our small ship… Spotting us, he came across the ice, sliding down ridges, rolling over, sniffing the air at our scent, until he checked us out. Amazing! He them a baked off to hunt, having dufficuktung climbing out of the water into the ice, at some points.

The quietness of the Arctic is amazing. The vastness is hard to capture in words or photos. We loved having the opportunity to hike up to a vantage point vista and sit and enjoy the quietness of the world.

The trip was good, the light gorgeous, the icebergs fantastical, and the wildlife wonderful with more polar bears than expected. The traditional villages made us think about their future, and we met new friends. The big surprise was our rescue of the passengers on the grounded Ioffe! Please don't ask questions about grandchildren--not everyone has children!!!

Seeing a Polar bear and her 2 cubs feeding from a Narwhal, bitter/sweet. Seeing a glacier calving, twice! Being in the middle of a storm with hurricane gusts and high waves 😱

Overall the trip was very good. G Adventures' personnel couldn't do enough to make everyone's trip special. The lectures and activities were interesting and the ship was very comfortable and clean. The food was fantastic! Our fellow travellers were nice especially the Canadian youngsters who were full of fun and enthusiasm. As for the wildlife - as Steven {one of the guides on the ship] said we were very, very lucky with the weather and wildlife viewings. We were not disappointed in any way.

The ancient geology and the absolute silence- the dramatic weathered, layered rock and experiencing sometimes, when on land, for just a moment the utter isolation.
