Were Swoop right to recommend Adventure Canada?

No

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Excellent. Felt very safe and very well organised. Cruising through icebergs was amazing.

Tell us about the wildlife

We saw a polar bear in the far distance. We saw a couple of seals in the water. We saw an Arctic fox in the far distance. We also saw the tail of a whale. But that was about it. Can’t be helped, it’s the nature of the trip.

Tell us about the expedition team

Knowledgeable and friendly but as we joined late, we had no idea who any of them were. A separate briefing on board for those joining in Greenland would have been helpful. There was a significant focus on Inuit culture which was interesting. A lot of the speakers could benefit from a public speaking course as there was certainly room for improvement in presentation skills.

Tell us about the Ocean Endeavour

Food was excellent and the crew were amazing. As a former car ferry it is showing its age and probably could do with a refurbishment in the near future. Definitely felt like a car ferry / old Greek ferry. The ship had little atmosphere. Playing background music during the day or in the bar would be a good start.

Something Else?

I strongly suggest that Adventure Canada consider holding a briefing on board for those joining in Greenland. We missed out on a lot of important information - no one showed us how to use a life jacket for example. The first few days we didn’t know who anyone was but afterwards it got better, once we worked everything out - but that was due to us, not to Adventure Canada.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to The Arctic?

The Adventure Canada jacket is more of a rain coat than a warm jacket. Bring a warm parka / puffa jacket with you.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I gained a good understanding of Inuit culture.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Just make sure Adventure Canada looks after those who are not Canadian and who don’t join in Canada.
