Overall, how was your trip?

This trip was simply marvelous. The hour long up close viewing of a female polar bear from the bow of the ship as she crossed the sea ice and put on a show for us was certainly a highlight. The 1500 pictures I took over the course of this viewing is a testament to this. The expedition staff were amazing - 3 Ph.D.'s and each and everyone had a wealth of knowledge to share. Ali, the expedition leader, was wonderful in explaining all the reasons for our changing itinerary and worked with the captain to ensure fabulous landings and zodiac cruises.

In one sentence, what did you think of the Arctic? Did it live up to your expectations?

This trip to the Canadian high arctic and West Greenland was absolutely awesome and far beyond our expectations.

How were your experiences on the guided excursions?

Each guided excursion provided a different and wonderful insight into the nature around us. The expedition staff with their varied areas of expertise could not have been better. The icebergs and sea ice were extremely plentiful and added to the adventure of this voyage as conditions changed quite rapidly. One highlight was the challanging hike to the terminal moraine at Eqip Sermia to view the glacier up close. When we descended the ice at the landing site was incredibly thick, requiring skilled zodiac driving and cooperation among the passengers to ensure our save return to ship.

How would you describe {vessel.title} if talking to somebody potentially interested in going to the Arctic, and what tips would you pass on?

The ship was comfortable and the hotel staff very welcoming with excellent service. The food was quite good despite our change in embarkation port that limited the amount of fresh supplies that could be brought on board. Our cabin, one of the 6 new ones added, was very nice and provided a comfortable space to relax. Excursions ashore were challanging due to the nature of the terrain but efforts were always made to accomadate the ability of all passengers. We had a 95 year old women with us!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to the Arctic?

Keep in mind that intineraries are a guide and embrace the changes that weather, wind and ice bring to each voyage. Landing in areas where things are uncharted and new to even the most experienced expedition staff is part of the adventure.
