Operator's Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Longyearbyen
Today, you’ll land in Svalbard’s largest settlement and transfer to your expedition vessel for a late afternoon embarkation.
You’ll need to drop your checked luggage at the designated meeting point between 9 am and 12 pm. A local representative will be on hand in the luggage storage room to help with any questions about the town or the embarkation process.
Later, you’ll board the ship as a group at 4 pm and set sail on your Arctic adventure!
Days 2 to 7: Exploring Svalbard
Spend six days immersed in the wild and remote world of Svalbard, a place where Arctic wildlife thrives. Each day brings new opportunities for discovery, shaped by the ice, weather and wildlife activity.
Depending on conditions, you may explore fjords flanked by glaciers, cruise along the sea ice edge in a zodiac rib, or go ashore to visit historic sites and walk the tundra. Keep an eye out for Arctic foxes, reindeer, walrus, seals and seabirds – and with luck and patience, a polar bear or two.
Early-season voyages often offer the best chance to encounter large ice floes and wildlife that gather near them. Later in the season, you may travel further afield, perhaps into lesser-visited corners of the archipelago or along the continental shelf, where whales gather to feed in nutrient-rich waters.
Throughout the voyage, expect calm seas – the distances between sites are relatively short, and there are no major open-ocean crossings. Your expedition team will craft each day’s activities to maximise your time in this extraordinary part of the Arctic.
On the final evening, your ship will anchor off Longyearbyen.
Day 8: Disembark in Longyearbyen
Leave the ship one final time this morning after a wonderful Arctic adventure and transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
NOTE: This itinerary is for guidance only as each voyage will vary depending on ice and weather conditions, and opportunities to see wildlife. Flexibility is key and all part of the adventure of an expeditionary cruise.
About The Ship
- Enthusiastic expedition team and crew who encourage a warm community atmosphere on board
- Classic nautical design gives the ship a traditional but cosy feel
- Renovations in 2017 included two new Rolls-Royce engines and improved stabilisers
- Two outdoor jacuzzis mean you can soak up the polar icescapes while soaking in the bubbles
- Camping & kayaking available on select departures
- Complimentary waterproof jacket to keep and boot loan
This is a cosy option with character – it still feels very much like you're on a ship, compared to some modern vessels that have more of a floating hotel feel. The cabins are quite compact, but that just encourages you out onto the spacious decks to soak up the Antarctic scenery.
