My top Arctic experiences

Kayaking in the Arctic

  1. Coming across a big group of walrus hauled out on the ice. I couldn’t believe how close we were while watching them grunt and shuffle around. It felt like stepping into their world for a moment
  2. Paddling in Svalbard was something else. The sea was calm, everything was quiet, and the snowflakes were settling softly on my jacket. It felt like I was part of the landscape, not just visiting it
  3. Noticing a white shadow dancing across the rocks and realising it was an Arctic fox! For the next half an hour, I sat and watched as it dashed up and down the slopes. It was fast, playful and completely in its element
  4. Hiking across an ice-covered landscape and spotting three reindeer below us. Still in their white coats, they were quietly searching for bits of grass poking through the snow
  5. Staying up till midnight just to see the sun hanging on the horizon. It didn’t set – just hovered there, turning everything gold. There was this strange, calm energy in the air. I’ll never forget it
